About BOW

Because of War

Founded by Michael Anokye, Because of War is a fashion house shaped by a perspective developed across Ghana, Germany, and the United States.

Exposure to different cultures, traditions, and ways of life informed Anokye's appreciation for fashion, music, art, and the many influences that shape personal taste. Rather than viewing these influences as separate, he embraced their coexistence.

That perspective became the foundation for Because of War.

A uniform for third-culture kids.

Not exclusively for those who have lived across different countries, but for individuals whose identities, interests, and tastes have been shaped by multiple cultures and experiences.

People who appreciate different worlds, move comfortably between them, and possess the confidence to define their own sense of identity.

As a fashion house, Because of War is guided by curiosity, exploration, and creative freedom.

Through BOW Studies, our research-led line, we investigate subjects, histories, and cultural practices, translating our findings into garments and objects.

Beyond our studies, collections such as BOW Culture and BOW Training allow us to explore design through instinct, function, and aesthetics, without the need for an elaborate narrative.

These approaches reflect the same philosophy that inspired the house: an appreciation for diverse influences and the belief that identity need not be confined to a single place, culture, or perspective.

A uniform for those shaped by many worlds.

Conflict Creates Culture.
